Precautions after Laparoscopic Myomectomy

By:Chloe Views:483

After laparoscopic myomectomy, you need to pay attention to wound care, appropriate activities, dietary adjustments, regular review, and observation of abnormal symptoms. During the postoperative recovery period, strenuous exercise and heavy physical labor should be avoided, sexual life and bathing should be prohibited, and medication should be taken as directed by the doctor.

Precautions after Laparoscopic Myomectomy

1. Wound care

After surgery, the abdominal puncture hole needs to be kept clean and dry, and the wound should be disinfected with iodophor once a day to avoid getting wet to prevent infection. The dressing should be changed promptly when it becomes wet or contaminated. The wound may experience slight redness, swelling or stinging 1-2 weeks after surgery, which is normal. If effusion, fever or severe pain occurs, seek medical attention immediately.

2. Appropriate activities

You can try to turn over in bed 6 hours after the operation. You can gradually get out of bed and move around after 24 hours, and gradually increase the amount of activity. Early activity can promote the recovery of gastrointestinal function and prevent venous thrombosis in the lower limbs. Within 2 weeks after surgery, avoid bending, lifting heavy objects and other actions that increase abdominal pressure, and prohibit strenuous activities such as running and dancing.

3. Diet adjustment

Do not fast within 6 hours after the operation. After passing gas, you can drink warm water first. If there is no discomfort, you can then transition to a liquid or semi-liquid diet. It is recommended to choose high-protein foods such as fish soup and egg custard, paired with easily digestible foods such as yam and millet porridge. It is particularly important to avoid gas-producing foods such as milk and beans, as well as spicy and irritating foods, and to maintain smooth bowel movements.

4. Regular review

A follow-up ultrasound is required 1 month after the operation to evaluate the recovery of the uterus and observe whether there is any residual or recurrence of fibroids. The status of uterine scar healing should be reviewed 3 months after surgery, and fertility evaluation can be considered after 6 months. During the reexamination, you need to inform the doctor whether there are symptoms such as abnormal vaginal bleeding and persistent abdominal pain.

5. Observe abnormal symptoms

A small amount of vaginal bleeding may last for 7-10 days after surgery. If the amount of bleeding exceeds menstrual flow or blood clots appear, be alert for poor healing of the uterine incision. A fever exceeding 38°C may indicate infection, and persistent abdominal distension needs to rule out intestinal obstruction. If anemia symptoms such as dizziness and palpitations occur, the hemoglobin level should be checked promptly.

Within 1 month after surgery, you should sleep in a semi-recumbent position to reduce abdominal tension, and press the wound with your hands when coughing or sneezing. An appropriate amount of iron can be supplemented to prevent anemia, such as polysaccharide iron complex capsules. Use condoms for contraception within 3 months, and it is recommended to consider pregnancy 6 months after surgery. Stay optimistic and take a 30-minute walk every day to help your recovery. If you experience any discomfort, contact your surgeon immediately. Gentle exercise such as yoga can be gradually resumed 6 months after surgery, but positions that increase abdominal pressure need to be avoided.
