Summary of publicity of traditional Chinese medicine health knowledge
Health science popularization that is divorced from the discussion of individual constitutions is all ineffective output. What residents are really willing to accept and can put into practice is never a "universal health prescription" that is suitable for a thousand people, but individualized care ideas that can correspond to their daily pain points.
I ran this event together with three colleagues from the Traditional Chinese Medicine Center of the Community Health Service Center. For 21 days, we set up convenience stalls at the entrance of the community, held two weekend lectures, and provided free pulse diagnosis and physical identification to 127 residents. We encountered many interesting situations and encountered many unexpected pitfalls.
To be honest, we were very "fully prepared" at the beginning. We printed 2,000 copies of the health manual on coated paper, which was clearly listed according to spring, summer, autumn and winter, including eating leeks in spring to boost the sun and eating mutton in winter to warm the body. The day after we sent it out, an aunt came over with the manual and said that after eating leeks for three days as you said, her mouth ulcers were so painful that she couldn't even eat. What was going on? It happened that Dr. Li and Dr. Zhang were both in the hospital that day. The two doctors happened to be from different schools. Dr. Li was a student of febrile disease. He said on the spot that people nowadays generally eat a fatty diet and have high internal heat. Chives are warm in nature. People with yin deficiency and high fire will definitely get angry after eating them. Don't blindly believe in the dead rules of maintaining health according to seasons. You have to look at your own foundation first. ; Doctor Zhang was a practitioner of prescriptions, so he didn't refute. He smiled and added that if you were really hungry and wanted to take a few bites, it would be fine. After eating, you could have a small plate of cold white radish to cool down the rising heat, and there would be no problem. You see, there is no standard answer. Different conditioning ideas have their own reasons. The key is to adapt to the individual's situation.
The most typical example we have encountered this time is Aunt Wang who lives in Maple Garden. She watched a short video and saw people saying that Panax notoginseng powder can activate blood circulation and remove blood clots to prevent stroke. She has been taking it for half a year, and her gums bleed frequently. She also always feels dizzy and flustered. When she came to take a pulse test, it was found that she has a constitution of yin deficiency and fire exuberance. Panax notoginseng is warm in nature. The more she eats, the more internal heat she will get, which will cause problems. There was also a young man who had just started working. He read online popular science and said that he should drink more cold and refreshing drinks in summer and keep iced milk tea in hand every day. When he came here, the coating on his tongue was as thick as a layer of hoarfrost. He said that he had been pooping in the toilet for half a month and always felt that his stomach was bloated. These problems are essentially based on believing in health-preserving conclusions that are “applicable to everyone” and failing to understand the “temperature” of one’s own body.
Of course, there were a lot of pitfalls this time. At the beginning, we invited a teacher from the University of Traditional Chinese Medicine to give a lecture. He talked about the theories of Yin-Yang, Five Elements and Meridian Flow. The adults in the audience left half of the audience after listening for 20 minutes. Later, we replaced an old doctor who has been attending clinics all year round. The first thing he asked when he came up was, "Does anyone have a sore mouth when they wake up in the morning?" Does anyone have cold hands and feet when winter comes? ”, the whole room raised their hands. The class was packed with people, and after it was over, there were still a bunch of people gathered around asking questions. Also, we originally prepared a complete set of instructional videos for Wu Qin Xi, intending to teach everyone the entire set of exercises, but the uncles and aunts all said that they could not remember it, so we simply taught the "Xiong Shake" movement, specifically to deal with the usual problems of waist and hip pain and heavy legs. On the same day, an uncle said that after 10 minutes of practice, the hip joints that usually hurt when going downstairs were much looser. The next day, we brought three or four old guys over to learn this move specifically.
We also encountered many different voices when promoting it. Some people said that traditional Chinese medicine health care is pseudoscience, and some people said that what you said is too troublesome. It is better to take some health products to save trouble. We did not force you to do anything. We just said that if you don’t feel any discomfort at ordinary times, you can live as you want. If you do, A small problem is never bad, so you might as well try the method we mentioned to adjust it for two weeks. For example, if you always have a headache after staying up late, don't take painkillers first, massage the Taichong point on the instep for 5 minutes. You will know if it works for yourself. We are not trying to convince you, but we are just giving you one more choice to regulate your body.
At the end of this activity, we received more than 80 valid feedbacks. 60% of the residents said that after following the little methods we taught, their previous minor problems such as bitter mouth, constipation, and cold hands and feet were relieved. The rest also said that they at least understood that they should not buy supplements blindly and do not use their own bodies as a testing ground for other people's health formulas. In fact, after having been promoting health care for so long, my biggest feeling is that this thing has never set a box for everyone. It does not mean that you must go to bed before 11 o'clock or eat what you must not eat, but it helps everyone understand the signals of their own bodies. If you get along well with it, it will naturally not cause trouble for you. As for the "health secrets" that are noisy on the Internet, no matter how good others say it, if you feel uncomfortable after using it, it is wrong. After all, only you know best whether you feel comfortable or not.
