Paroxetine can treat anxiety disorders. Paroxetine is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor that can increase the concentration of the neurotransmitter serotonin. It also has mild anticholinergic effects and can also slightly increase the concentration of norepinephrine. The FDA-approved indications for paroxetine include depressive disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, panic disorder, social phobia, post-traumatic stress disorder, generalized anxiety disorder (also known as anxiety disorder), and premenstrual anxiety disorder. The anti-anxiety effect of Paroxetine can often be felt within a few days of starting treatment, while the anti-depressant effect often takes 2-4 weeks to appear. For patients with obvious anxiety symptoms, benzodiazepine anti-anxiety drugs can be used for a short period of time at the beginning of treatment, and then the benzodiazepine anti-anxiety drugs can be gradually discontinued after the effects of paroxetine are apparent.
