Judging from the children's safety and first aid training currently implemented in China, the core content basically focuses on three directions: scene-based safety prevention and control, practical first aid skills, and guardian cognitive correction. The purpose is to implement the logic of "prevention" and "rescue" into the daily life of every family, rather than talking about empty theories.

I have attended more than 20 community and kindergarten trainings in the past six months. The one that left the deepest impression was the one held at Chengxi Kindergarten last month. A father had learned a bit about Heimlich from watching a short video. When his child choked on milk, he pressed his stomach and almost hurt his stomach. The contents inside are choked into the air pipe, so now we are required to touch the simulator in all trainings. There are models for infants, 1-3 years old, and children over 6 years old. If the strength and position are wrong, you can change them on the spot. Otherwise, it is really easy to have an accident just by watching the video. In addition to the treatment of choking, common burns and scalds, "rinsing off the bubble cap and sending it away", correct response to febrile convulsions, and hemostatic bandaging of minor trauma are all required training. They will also specifically explain which situations must be sent to the doctor as soon as possible and cannot be dealt with blindly at home.

It is not enough to know how to rescue. Nearly half of the training time is about how to "prevent". It is not about chanting the jingle "don't touch the socket", but using real scenes: for example, at what height should you place medicine bottles and button batteries at home so that they are out of reach? When a child comes close to the socket, should you shout "don't move" or go up and hug him? How much attention should parents keep when going to a public swimming pool in the summer? How to teach children to react when they are approached by strangers. Last time we asked volunteers to wear cartoon doll costumes and hold lollipops to simulate kidnapping. Half the children in the class followed and the parents in the audience didn't say anything after watching it for a long time. It was more effective than our two-hour theory talk.

By the way, there is no unified opinion in the industry on whether to teach basic self-rescue movements to children under 3 years old. Some experts say that children of this age group have poor understanding ability, and teaching them will easily make them feel that they can handle it, and they will not take the initiative to seek help from adults.; Some organizations insist on doing it, saying that even if they can't remember the complete movements, they can make chest-slapping and waving gestures when they are really choking or trapped, and parents can react immediately. At present, when we do our own training, we will make this part into a small game for parent-child interaction, which does not require children to master it. The main purpose is to remind parents to observe their children's abnormal movements.

There are also many common erroneous operations that are also the focus of the training, such as applying toothpaste or soy sauce when a child is burned or scalded, covering a thick quilt to sweat when a child has a fever, pinching someone's philtrum or putting chopsticks in their mouths due to febrile convulsions. We have encountered too many cases of these erroneous operations leading to serious consequences. Last year, a grandmother burned her grandson's hands and applied miso soybean paste. The infection eventually left scars. The child always hid his hands in his sleeves after he entered elementary school. It was a pity. To be honest, this type of training is never about piling up knowledge points for parents. It is more like installing an invisible safety plan for the home. You don’t need to remember it carefully at ordinary times. When something happens, the movements of your hands are faster than your brain’s reaction, and that’s enough.
