What are the types of balanitis in men?

By:Alan Views:507

When a man gets balanitis, it will cause pain and discomfort on the glans, and may even lead to erosion and exudation. Balanitis can also be contagious. Therefore, attention should be paid to timely detection and timely treatment of balanitis. How many types of balanitis are there?

1. Acute and chronic superficial balanitis. This kind of balanitis is an acute inflammation, which may be caused by local stimulation such as trauma, friction, detergents, etc. When acute superficial balanitis occurs, it will cause local edema, erythema, erosion and exudation. In severe cases, there will be blisters and bullae. If not treated in time, ulcers will form after secondary bacterial infection, accompanied by purulent secretions. If care is not taken, the wound will be irritated by local friction, secretion accumulation, etc., leading to aggravation of inflammation. The patient feels pain and tenderness consciously. If the local inflammation is severe, it may be accompanied by mild systemic symptoms.

2. Annular erosive balanitis. This type of balanitis mainly manifests as annular or multi-annular damage. Erythema will initially appear on the foreskin and foreskin area, and then the erythema will gradually expand and become annular or multi-annular, and then superficial ulcers may form. For patients with poor foreskin inversion, local accumulation of secretions may lead to secondary infection and aggravation of symptoms.

3. Candida balanitis includes primary and secondary. After the onset, it can cause erythema in the lesion area. The surface of the skin lesion is smooth, and the edges may be slightly desquamated. At the same time, there are satellite-like distribution of papules and small pustules, which can cause the surrounding pustules to expand. If not treated in time, it will affect the groin. An acute attack of glans mucosa can cause edematous erythema with unclear boundary, which may be accompanied by erosion and exudation. Candida can be found in the lesion during microscopic examination and culture. If candida balanitis recurs, it can cause dryness, fibrosis, and sclerosis of the foreskin.

4. Plasma cell balanitis. In addition to inflammation in the glans area, this kind of balanitis can also manifest as chronic inflammation. At the same time, accompanied by cell infiltration, inflammatory erythema can appear in the skin lesions, the surface is moist and shiny, and sometimes erosion and spot hemorrhage can occur. During pathological examination, it can be seen that the epidermis atrophies, the stratum corneum and granular layer disappear, and there are many plasma cells infiltrating in the dermal papilla, as well as telangiectasia and hemosiderin deposition.
