The gauze can usually be removed 3-5 days after circumcision. The specific time depends on the wound healing condition.

Gauze after circumcision is mainly used to protect the wound, absorb exudate and prevent infection. There will be a lot of wound exudation 1-2 days after the operation, so the gauze needs to be kept dry and clean. If there is no obvious redness, swelling, bleeding or abnormal secretions, the gauze can be removed by the doctor after evaluation 3 days after surgery. Some patients may experience delayed healing due to physical differences or improper postoperative care, which may need to be extended to about 5 days. Before removing the gauze, the wound should be observed for scabs and signs of infection. During operation, the gauze should be soaked with saline to avoid adhesion. Avoid strenuous exercise within 24 hours after surgery. You can shower but not take a bath after 48 hours. Wear loose underwear to reduce friction. If bleeding, pus, or persistent pain occurs after removing the gauze, seek medical attention immediately.

After surgery, the perineum needs to be kept clean and dry, and disinfected with iodophor 1-2 times a day. Eat a light diet, avoid spicy and irritating foods, and consume more high-quality protein and vitamin C to promote healing. Sexual intercourse and masturbation are prohibited for two weeks, and activities that put pressure on the wound such as riding a bicycle are avoided for one month. Check regularly to ensure that the wound is healing normally. If there are sutures, they will usually absorb and fall off in 7-10 days.
