Orchitis refers to inflammatory space-occupying lesions in the male testicles. In clinical medicine, the main characteristics are the rapid swelling of male testicles, swollen heat and pain, increased vaginal skin temperature, accompanied by fever, chills, dizziness, fatigue, joint pain and other symptoms in our province. The main pathogens are Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus aureus. Acute orchitis in children and adolescents is often caused by the influenza mumps virus.

    Causes of disease:

Orchitis is usually caused by bacteria. The male testicles themselves rarely produce bacterial infections. This is because the male testicles have a rich supply of blood and tissue fluid and are more resistant to bacterial infections. Bacterial infection orchitis is mostly caused by inflammation of the adjacent epididymal cyst, so it is also called epididymal cyst-orchitis. Common pathogenic bacteria are Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus infection, Escherichia coli, etc. Viruses can directly infect the male testicles, the most common being the influenza mumps virus, which itself mainly infects the submandibular glands of children. However, this kind of virus can also damage the male testicles, so viral orchitis is often prone to occur soon after the onset of influenza and mumps. In addition, experimental autoimmune orchitis (EAO) is one of the reproductive immunology diseases with male testicular inflammation as the main pathological change.

    Clinical symptoms:

Orchitis specifically manifests as damage to the seminiferous tubules, infiltration of white blood cells around the seminiferous tubules, and a significant decrease in the total number of sperm, leading to dead sperm, azoospermia, and then loss of reproductive function. In addition, factors such as anti-sperm antibodies produced in orchitis, insufficient blood supply, activated inflammatory cells and other factors can induce the destruction of the natural blood-testis barrier, affect the differentiation specificity of spermatogenic cells, and then cause sperm formation disorders, directly causing male infertility.

    Diagnostic imaging tests:

Testicular inflammatory diseases are mainly acute inflammation of the testicles and the vaginal membrane. The main ultrasound manifestations are decreased echo and focal swelling of the testicles. The ultrasound manifestations of focal testicular tumors are relatively similar, and the echoes are relatively uniform.; Color Doppler test results show that the blood signal may be increased, but there is no obvious blood signal.
