Epididymal cysts generally do not heal on their own, but in most cases no special treatment is required. Epididymal cysts may be related to chronic inflammation, local injury and other factors, and usually present as a painless mass in the scrotum.
Epididymal cysts are benign lesions that usually do not cause obvious symptoms when they are small in size and have no significant impact on physiological functions. This type of cyst is mostly formed by fluid retention caused by epididymal duct obstruction. The cyst wall structure is intact and the contents are stable, lacking the physiological mechanism of self-absorption. Clinical observations have found that cysts less than 2 cm in diameter rarely change in volume during long-term follow-up, and patients only need to review scrotal ultrasound every 6-12 months to monitor progress.
When the diameter of the cyst exceeds 3 cm or is complicated by infection and bleeding, symptoms such as scrotal swelling and discomfort during urination may occur. In the case of secondary infection, local skin redness and tenderness may be seen. At this time, the cyst may increase in size in a short period of time. Trauma may cause the cyst to rupture, but this is rare. For cysts that continue to grow or have obvious symptoms, ultrasound-guided aspiration or laparoscopic surgical resection may be considered.
You should avoid severe impact on the scrotum in daily life, and choose loose and breathable underwear to reduce local friction. If you find a sudden enlargement of the cyst accompanied by pain and fever, you should seek medical treatment promptly to rule out emergencies such as testicular torsion. Monitor cyst changes through palpation and ultrasonography during regular physical examinations, and there is no need to overly intervene in small, asymptomatic cysts.
