Complete hair health care actually covers four major dimensions: scalp care, hair shaft repair, daily behavior adaptation, and problematic hair conditioning. It is by no means a matter of changing a bottle of lady shampoo and solving it once and for all.
A while ago, a regular customer from the Internet came to me and said that she was combing her hair every day and it was all over the sink. She had tried three or four popular anti-hair loss shampoos but it was of no use at all. I took a dermatoscope and saw that her scalp was full of red inflammatory spots and the hair follicles were tightly blocked. They were all semi-solidified oil plugs. It was a typical seborrheic dermatitis with an imbalance of bacterial flora. The ingredients of ordinary shampoos cannot penetrate into the dermis at all. How can washing alone solve the problem? When it comes to scalp care, it’s really not like many people think, just apply some scrub and rub it for two minutes. The first step in regular hospital care is to do a scalp test first. First, find out whether you have an oily scalp with a lot of oil, a sensitive scalp that is prone to redness and itchiness, or an early stage of androgenetic alopecia with signs of hair follicle shrinkage, and then match the corresponding items: strong oil production is easy to grow. For folliculitis, first do a nano-scale deep cleansing of the scalp to slowly dissolve the oil plugs at the entrance of the hair follicles, which will not scratch the cuticle as easily as a scrub; for sensitive skin that is red and itchy, use soothing ceramide essence for introduction, and then use cold spray to calm it; for people with androgenic alopecia or postpartum hair loss, low-energy red light irradiation will be used to help activate the activity of hair follicles. By the way, we in the industry have no unified conclusion on whether scalp scrubs, which are currently very hotly debated on the Internet, are IQ taxes. Some people think that if you have oily skin, using them once a week can quickly remove excess oil on the surface, which is more cleansing than ordinary shampoo. Others think that the hard scrub particles can easily scratch the already fragile scalp barrier, so sensitive skin should not touch it. Whether it can be used depends on your own scalp tolerance.
Don’t think that just caring for the scalp is enough. Many people’s scalp tests show no problems at all, but the ends of their hair are as dry as dried hay. They break when you pull them, and they get stuck when you comb them and make your scalp hurt. This is because the hair shaft repair has not been kept up. A few months ago, I met a little girl who loves trendy hair. She bleached her hair three times in a month, and the hair cuticles at the ends of her hair were all raised. It was a porous damage. Ordinary conditioner was absorbed within two minutes after being applied, and could not retain nutrients at all. This kind of hair must be repaired first, filling the holes in the cuticles, and then using closed-type hair care essential oil to lock in moisture, so that the hair can slowly regain its strength. It should also be mentioned here that there is a lot of internal controversy among us about protein correction, which is currently very popular. One group believes that it can quickly fill the cuticle defects of the hair shaft and is particularly effective for severely damaged permed and dyed hair. The other group points out that many low-priced protein correction products used by small institutions contain banned formaldehyde ingredients, which will corrode the scalp and hair if used for a long time. If you really want to do it, you must first read the product test report of the merchant, and don’t just try to be cheap.
Many people think that spending thousands of dollars on ten treatments at a hospital is enough. Then I go home and stay up late until two or three every day, eating heavy oil and spicy hot pot every meal. After washing my hair, I hold a 180-degree hair dryer against my scalp and blow it hard. No matter how good the care is, it is in vain. To be honest, daily behavioral adaptation is actually the most important and easily overlooked aspect of hair care. It is hidden in many small details that you can’t notice: When your hair is wet, the hair scales are fully open. Don’t pull hard with a fine-toothed comb, otherwise it will be pulled. Cut off a large section; before blow-drying, dry the scalp first and then blow-dry the ends. It is best to adjust the temperature to below 60 degrees and do not apply it too close; do not apply products such as hair masks and conditioners to the scalp, especially for people with a lot of oil, which can easily block hair follicles and aggravate hair loss.
If you have a clear hair problem, such as repeated dandruff, alopecia areata, or large areas of gray hair, you need to perform targeted treatment. Take dandruff, for example. Don’t buy a strong anti-dandruff shampoo and wash it vigorously. First, distinguish whether you have dry dandruff, which is dry and flaky, or oily hair, which is prone to oil and odor. For dandruff, the former is caused by damaged scalp barrier and lack of water. You need to replenish the barrier first and then slowly adjust it. The latter is caused by excessive Malassezia. Use ingredients containing zinc pyrithione or ketoconazole to treat the symptoms. If it is really serious to the level of alopecia areata, then maintenance alone is not enough. You must also cooperate with dermatology medication, and use internal and external adjustments together to be effective.
To put it bluntly, hair care is like raising a potted plant. Your scalp is the root and your hair is the leaves. You have to take care of the roots first so that the leaves can have nutrients. You must also keep up with your daily habits of watering and sunbathing. Don’t wait until the leaves turn yellow and fall off before you think of saving them. No matter how hard you try, you may not be able to raise them back.
