Leucorrhea, like tofu, may be caused by vulvovaginal candidiasis, which usually presents with vulvar itching, burning pain, painful urination and other symptoms. Vulvovaginal candidiasis may be caused by long-term use of antibiotics, pregnancy, diabetes, low immunity and other factors. It can be treated with clotrimazole vaginal tablets, miconazole nitrate suppositories, fluconazole capsules, nystatin vaginal suppositories, itraconazole capsules and other drugs.
1. Long-term use of antibiotics
Long-term use of broad-spectrum antibiotics may lead to vaginal flora imbalance, allowing Candida to overproduce. Patients may experience increased leucorrhea that looks like tofu, accompanied by redness and swelling of the vulva. Treatment requires stopping unnecessary antibiotics and using clotrimazole vaginal tablets or miconazole nitrate suppositories under the guidance of a doctor. Pay attention to perineal cleaning on a daily basis and avoid wearing tight chemical fiber underwear.
2. Pregnancy
Estrogen levels increase during pregnancy and the glycogen content in the vagina increases, providing a favorable environment for the growth of Candida. Pregnant women may experience severe itching and white curd-like discharge from the vulva. Nystatin vaginal suppositories can be used under the guidance of a doctor and oral antifungal drugs can be avoided. It is recommended to change cotton underwear every day and wash the vulva with warm water.
3. Diabetes
Diabetic patients with poor blood sugar control are prone to vulvovaginal candidiasis because a high-sugar environment promotes fungal growth. Typical symptoms include vulvar burning, dyspareunia, and bean-like leucorrhea. Blood sugar needs to be actively controlled and fluconazole capsules should be used together. Blood sugar should be monitored daily, high-sugar food intake should be reduced, and the vulva should be kept dry.
4. Low immunity
People with AIDS and long-term use of immunosuppressants are prone to repeated infections due to reduced immunity. Symptoms may include erosion of the vaginal mucosa and thick, clumpy discharge. For treatment, you need to take itraconazole capsules as directed by your doctor and improve your immunity at the same time. Avoid excessive cleaning of the vagina, maintain a regular schedule, and supplement with probiotics appropriately.
5. Other triggering factors
Frequent vaginal douching and use of fragrance-containing sanitary products may damage the vaginal microenvironment. Symptoms include recurrent itching and odorous secretions. It is recommended to stop using irritating products and choose a mild lotion with pH 4.5. Sexual intercourse should be avoided during treatment, partners should be checked simultaneously, and topical antifungal ointments should be used if necessary.
If you have tofu-like leucorrhea, you need to seek medical attention promptly for a clear diagnosis to avoid delaying the condition with self-medication. You should choose breathable cotton underwear for daily use to avoid sitting in a humid environment for a long time. Reduce the intake of sweets in the diet and supplement sugar-free yogurt in an appropriate amount. During treatment, medication should be taken according to the prescribed course of treatment, and all treatments must be completed even if the symptoms disappear. Regular review of leucorrhea routine, patients with underlying diseases such as diabetes need to strengthen the management of primary diseases.
