A short foreskin frenulum may be caused by congenital developmental abnormalities, repeated stimulation of local inflammation, trauma or surgical injury, Peyronie's disease, diabetes and other factors. A short foreskin frenulum usually presents with symptoms such as erection pain, discomfort during sexual intercourse, frenulum tearing and bleeding, etc. Targeted treatment is required according to the specific reasons.
1. Congenital developmental abnormalities
Some men may have underdevelopment of the foreskin frenulum during embryonic development, resulting in the frenulum being too short. This condition begins to appear after puberty after the penis develops, and the pulling sensation is obvious during erection. If there is no serious dysfunction, follow-up can be observed. If it affects normal sexual life, corrective treatment such as frenuloplasty needs to be considered.
2. Repeated stimulation of local inflammation
Recurrent infections such as posthitis and balanitis can lead to fibrous tissue proliferation in the frenulum area, which may be related to Candida albicans infection, bacterial infection and other factors. Patients often present with symptoms such as redness, swelling, and increased secretions. You need to use anti-infective drugs such as clotrimazole cream and erythromycin ointment as directed by your doctor, and keep the perineum clean.
3. Trauma or surgical injury
Violent pulling during sexual intercourse and improper circumcision may cause scar contracture after frenulum injury. In the acute stage, frenulum rupture and bleeding may occur, and timely compression is required to stop the bleeding. Old injuries can be improved by frenulum lengthening surgery, and compound polymyxin B ointment needs to be used to prevent infection after surgery.
4. Peyronie’s disease
Fibrotic lesions of the tunica albuginea of the corpus cavernosum may involve the frenulum, resulting in shortening and deformation of the frenulum during erection. The disease may be related to trauma, autoimmunity and other factors, and manifests as penile induration and curvature deformity. Collagenase injections or plaque removal surgery can be used as directed by your doctor.
5. Diabetes factors
Long-term poor blood sugar control may lead to peripheral neuropathy and microcirculation disorders, causing the elasticity of the frenulum to decrease. Such patients often suffer from slow wound healing and recurrent infections. Blood sugar needs to be actively controlled, and growth factor gel can be used locally to promote repair.
You should avoid violent sexual behavior on a daily basis and choose loose cotton underwear to reduce friction. Do not pull the frenulum excessively when cleaning, and dry it promptly after bathing to keep it dry. If bleeding from a frenulum tear occurs, apply pressure to stop the bleeding and seek medical attention immediately. Diabetic patients need to monitor blood sugar regularly, control their diet and exercise appropriately. It is recommended to conduct annual urinary system examinations to identify problems and intervene early.
