First aid is the core link in the emergency health system that is front-loaded and closest to the public. It is equivalent to the "mesh knot" of the emergency health protection network. Every time more people master first aid skills, there will be one less loophole in the network.
Last month, we encountered a myocardial infarction in our community. A 58-year-old Uncle Zhang fell down when he went downstairs to throw out garbage. The pediatric nurse on the same floor happened to be passing by after get off work. He immediately knelt down and performed CPR. The owner of the convenience store nearby ran to get the AED provided by the community property last year. He used defibrillation in less than 4 minutes. By the time 120 was reached, Uncle Zhang had recovered his spontaneous heart rate. Later, he went to the hospital for follow-up and recovered very well, without any sequelae. After this incident, when our community was doing a review of emergency health, we also talked about two different views on the relationship between the two in the industry: Many people think that first aid is all emergency health. As long as skills such as cardiopulmonary resuscitation and Heimlich are popularized to the entire population, it will be equivalent to establishing a public emergency health system. ; Some professionals believe that first aid is only an insignificant terminal supplement. The core of emergency health still depends on risk warning of disease control, public health material reserves and the treatment capabilities of medical institutions. Whether ordinary people know first aid has little impact.
I have been doing emergency health science popularization at the grassroots level for almost 4 years, and I have seen more than a dozen emergencies, large and small. To be honest, both views are a bit biased. Emergency health is a full-chain system covering pre-risk warning, public health protection, incident emergency response, and post-incident recovery follow-up, while first aid is the starting point at the most critical node of "incident response". The two are embedded together, and neither one can work without one. For example, when the heat continued last summer, the street next door made a complete set of high-temperature emergency health plans in advance, including heat relief bags and temporary summer shelters for outdoor workers. As a result, a cleaning worker suddenly suffered from heat stroke and fainted on the side of the road. No one dared to offer first aid in a circle, so they only waited for 120 people to come. In the end, the golden time for treatment was delayed, and all good plans were stuck in the "last 100 meters." On the other hand, it is useless if you only have first aid skills without the support of the emergency health system. Two years ago, a young man in a mountainous area learned CPR from his elderly family member. However, when the elderly man got into an accident, he had to travel 120 miles to the mountain to get there, and there was no AED nearby. No matter how standard his operation was, he could not save him.
Don’t think that first aid is a matter for professionals and has nothing to do with the emergency health of ordinary people. Not long ago, a junior high school held an emergency health class for students, and taught the Heimlich maneuver. Within a week, a child got his throat stuck after eating jelly. His deskmate followed the instructions in class and took out the foreign object in a few clicks. If the school doctor ran over from the office building, something might happen. To put it bluntly, when we do science popularization now, we will not forcefully explain concepts to everyone. We just want more people to understand that learning more reliable first aid skills will not only insure the health of yourself and your family, but also make the emergency health protection network of the entire society tighter.
