Uterine polyps may disappear on their own, but less often, medical intervention is usually required. Uterine polyps may be related to abnormal hormone levels, chronic inflammatory stimulation and other factors. It is recommended that patients seek medical treatment in time for a clear diagnosis.
Smaller uterine polyps have the potential to fall out naturally, especially if they are associated with pregnancy or fluctuating hormone levels. Some patients may excrete polyps with menstrual blood during the endometrial stripping process during menstruation. As estrogen levels drop in postmenopausal women, the growth of polyps is inhibited, and some of them may gradually shrink. However, this type of situation mostly occurs in polyps less than 10 mm in diameter and without clinical symptoms.
Most uterine polyps do not resolve on their own, especially polyps that are more than 10 mm in diameter, have a wide pedicle, or are accompanied by abnormal bleeding. Polyps that have existed for a long time may continue to enlarge, leading to increased menstrual flow, prolonged menstrual periods or irregular bleeding, and even affect fertility. Infected polyps may cause symptoms such as falling pain in the lower abdomen and abnormal secretions. Such cases require hysteroscopic surgical resection and pathological examination to exclude the possibility of malignant transformation.
It is recommended that women of childbearing age undergo regular gynecological examinations and seek medical advice promptly if symptoms such as abnormal uterine bleeding or infertility occur. After surgery, patients need to avoid strenuous exercise, keep the perineum clean, and use antibiotics as directed by the doctor to prevent infection. Daily intake of high estrogen foods should be reduced and weight should be controlled to maintain stable hormone levels.
